Obesity is being segmented by mechanism, treatment setting, geography and endpoint architecture. NCT07791524 is notable because it evaluates MWN-109 in a Phase 2 design sponsored by Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd.. The main development question is whether the protocol can translate its rationale into a clinically interpretable and operationally credible readout.

This is a phase II, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial to preliminarily evaluate the efficacy, safety, and PK of MWN109 tablets administered orally once daily in non-diabetic participants with overweight or obesity. Approximately 240 participants will be enrolled. All participants will be stratified by gender (male or female) and then randomized 1:1:1:1:1 to 5 treatment groups, with approximately 48 participants per group. All treatment groups will implement dose titration to achieve the target dose. This study consists of a screening period of up to 2 weeks, a treatment period of 20 weeks, and a follow-up period of 2 weeks, totaling 24 weeks. The primary endpoint is the percentage change in body weight compared to the baseline after 20 weeks of drug administration. The secondary endpoints include the proportions of participants with a body weight reduction of ≥5%, ≥10%, ≥15%, and ≥20% relative to t
Allocation is Randomized, masking is Double, and the intervention model is Parallel Assignment. Planned enrollment of 255 participants across China shapes statistical precision, execution risk and external validity. Interpretation should account for baseline risk, prior therapy, assessment schedule, missing-data handling and clinical relevance—not only statistical significance.
The current protocol points to Not reported as the best available readout proxy. Because this is an active or newly posted study, a trial-specific result citation is not included until a normalized clinical-trial-result record becomes available. That gap is itself operationally important: teams should monitor first result indexing, conference abstracts, protocol amendments and changes to the primary-completion date.

Drug & Asset MCP profile: MWN-109 is indexed as No normalized modality returned, with target No normalized target returned, mechanism No normalized mechanism returned, and global highest development status No normalized global status returned.
Company & Deal Intelligence MCP profile: Shanghai Minwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. is resolved to a normalized organization record in Shanghai Shi, China. The organization workflow adds identity, location, portfolio and partnering context where available.
The sponsor profile matters because scientific rationale alone does not determine development value. Manufacturing readiness, portfolio fit, geographic reach, partnering capacity and the ability to fund confirmatory development can determine whether a positive signal becomes a competitive asset.
Monitor recruitment, enrollment changes, protocol amendments, endpoint hierarchy, primary-completion timing, first result indexing, asset ownership and sponsor partnerships. A change in endpoint, population or ownership can alter the probability of success before a headline data release.
NCT07791524 provides a focused lens on Obesity development. Its value will be determined by whether MWN-109 can convert the current Phase 2 design into evidence that is clinically meaningful, operationally credible and differentiated from competing programs.
