This study aimed to study the pharmacokinetic characteristics of minocycline hydrochloride capsules (100 mg) developed by Chengdu Ruier Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. and produced by Hangzhou Minsheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. after single fasting and postprandial oral administration; minocycline hydrochloride capsules (MINOMYCIN®/ミノマイシン®, 100 mg) certified by Pfizer Japan Inc. and produced by ファイザー Co., Ltd. were used as the reference preparation, and the pharmacokinetic parameters Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ of the two preparations were compared to evaluate the bioequivalence of the two preparations in humans.

Surgically treated chronic maxillary sinusitis: Does the odontogenic etiology alone or in combination with a fungus ball matter?

PURPOSETo determine whether odontogenic maxillary sinusitis, either alone (OMSw/oFB) or in combination with fungus ball (OMSwFB), is associated with specific clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes compared to non-odontogenic maxillary sinusitis.MATERIALS AND METHODSA retrospective cohort study was performed on patients who underwent surgical treatment for chronic maxillary sinusitis between 2013 and 2021. OMSw/oFB and OMSwFB patients, were selected as the study group, while patients diagnosed with non-odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (non-OMS) were enrolled as the control group. Predictor variables were OMSw/oFB and OMSwFB. Outcomes were clinical presentation, postoperative complications, and treatment outcome. Descriptive, bivariate, and multiple logistic regression statistics were calculated, and the significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05.RESULTSThe sample included 200 patients with a mean age of 49.6 ± 20.1 years and 57.5 % were men. Of the 200 patients, 123 (61.5 %) had non-OMS, 55 (27.5 %) had OMSw/oFB, and 22 (11 %) had OMSwFB. Multivariate analysis showed that OMSw/oFB was associated with more successful treatment rates (OR = 8.19, p < 0.01), whereas OMSwFB was associated with a less favorable outcome (OR = 0.27, p = 0.03). Age was associated with an unfavorable outcome in both OMS groups (OR: 0.98, p = 0.03 and p = 0.03, respectively), but no significant associations with other outcomes were found.CONCLUSIONThis study suggests that OMSwFB is a recalcitrant form of OMS associated with a higher risk of persistent symptoms and less favorable outcome. These patients should be informed about the challenging nature of the disease and closely monitored.

Surgical management of maxillary sinusitis of endodontic origin after reestablishing maxillary sinus floor healing through a nonsurgical approach: a case report.

When root canal infections breach the maxillary sinus floor (MSF), maxillary sinusitis of endodontic origin (MSEO) can result. This case illustrates the surgical management of MSEO following the nonsurgical reestablishment of the MSF. A 55-year-old woman presented with left facial pain and was diagnosed with MSEO originating from the left upper first molar. Despite undergoing nonsurgical root canal treatment, there was no evidence of bony healing after 6 months. However, cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scans revealed the reestablishment of MSF. Subsequently, surgical intervention was carried out using a dental operating microscope. Two years after surgery, CBCT images indicated that the mucosal edema had resolved, and the MSF was well reestablished. Preserving the MSF is crucial for the success of endodontic surgery. When MSEO is present, the integrity of the MSF must be assessed to determine appropriate treatment options.

Historical Trends and Risk Factors in Chronic Maxillary Sinusitis Among Dutch Pre‐Adults (475–1866 CE)

ABSTRACTObjectivesThis research examines the prevalence of chronic maxillary sinusitis in pre‐adults from multiple Dutch sites, while also considering the effects of associated risk factors such as time period (i.e., urbanization), living conditions, and socioeconomic status. Our aim was to investigate how different risk factors impacted childhood upper respiratory health throughout the Dutch medieval and Post‐medieval periods.Materials and MethodsWe selected 13 sites representative of different time periods (475–1866 CE), living environments (i.e., rural and urban), and socioeconomic status to provide an in‐depth overview of past Dutch societies. We macroscopically and endoscopically analyzed the maxillary sinuses of 227 pre‐adult individuals to identify paleopathological signs of sinusitis. Adult data on chronic maxillary sinusitis from 11 of these populations were available for comparison.ResultsStatistical analysis revealed that time period had the most noteworthy impact on sinusitis prevalence. Post‐medieval pre‐adults were nearly three times more likely to develop sinusitis than their early‐medieval counterparts, while post‐medieval adolescents faced an eightfold increase in risk compared to adolescents from earlier periods. Neither living environment nor socioeconomic status showed a statistically significant effect on sinusitis prevalence.DiscussionOur findings highlight the interplay of risk factors affecting respiratory health in pre‐adults, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the historical burden of respiratory diseases in past populations. Factors such as increased population densities, limited access to resources (e.g., healthcare, nutritious food, and drinking water), and the institutionalization of child labor in the Dutch post‐medieval period likely had negative impacts on the respiratory health of pre‐adults.
