Esperion Therapeutics (Nasdaq: ESPR) has closed its acquisition of Corstasis Therapeutics Inc., a privately held, commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company, adding Enbumyst (bumetanide nasal spray) — the first and only FDA-approved intranasal loop diuretic — to its cardiovascular portfolio. The transaction advances Esperion’s Vision 2040 strategy by extending its cardiometabolic franchise beyond LDL-C management into outpatient fluid management for edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic disease, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
As announced earlier this month, Esperion paid USD 75 million upfront and committed to up to USD 180 million in regulatory and commercial milestones, as well as low double-digit royalties on future global sales.
The intranasal formulation is designed to address limitations of oral absorption in patients with fluid overload and reduce reliance on IV diuretics requiring clinic-based administration. The drug was approved by the US FDA in September 2025 for edema associated with heart failure, hepatic disease, and renal disease, and was commercially launched in Q4 2025.
The acquisition allows Esperion to leverage its existing cardiovascular commercial infrastructure to support Enbumyst uptake. The company said it will focus on payer engagement and prescriber education as it expands into outpatient fluid management.
Corstasis also developed earlier-stage subcutaneous bumetanide candidates, RSQ-786 and RSQ-789, extending the platform into additional delivery formats, though timelines for regulatory submission have not been disclosed.
The deal reflects Esperion’s broader strategy to expand beyond LDL-C management into adjacent cardiometabolic indications.
